The Second Technical Coordination Committee of the AfTIAS 2.0 Program was held virtually on 15 September 2022, under the chairmanship of Eng. Hani Salem Sonbol, CEO of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AfTIAS 2.0 Program, and Chairman of the AfTIAS 2.0 Technical Coordination Committee.
Eng. Hani Salem Sonbol opened the second meeting by offering sincere thanks to the committee members for their fruitful cooperation and coordination with the ITFC to ensure the success of the Committee’s meetings. He noted that the second meeting would discuss and approve the second package of projects submitted by Arab countries and organizations. The second package consists of six project proposals received by the ITFC.
He stated that the Board of Directors of the AfTIAS 2.0 Program had allocated, during its first meeting held in October 2021, a budget of US$10,483,200 to approve the projects that will be presented to the Committee over a five-year period. He also noted that the Committee had approved eight projects in its first meeting, with a total budget of US$2,260,000. Eng. Hani Sonbol also confirmed that the ITFC is making every effort to ensure governance and transparency for the Program based on the arrangements and mechanisms approved by the Board.
By the end of the meeting, the Committee had approved the second package of projects submitted to the ITFC, consisting of five projects benefiting four countries (Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Jordan, and Egypt) and one regional organization (the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT)).
